This event is the second in OPEN's Centering Racial Equity in Evaluation: The DEIJ Learning Series.
Focusing on the "Debunk Myths” guide in the Kellogg series, we will explore five beliefs and ideas about evaluation that can make us “anxious and apprehensive” about centering racial equity in our evaluation practice.
Though myths are not true, they can support misconceptions and be passed along unchallenged by individuals, institutions and systems so people start to believe they are true. Our mental models – frames of how something works that guide our perceptions, behaviors, and how we approach and relate to other people and our surroundings – can contribute to perpetuating myths, consciously and unconsciously.
Prior to this hour-long conversation exploring myths and our mental models, we will send participants the first practice guide and a brief summary of evaluation-related practices that are relevant to advancing racial equity goals.

Centering Racial Equity in Evaluation: The DEIJ Learning Series
OPEN is hosting a series of practice-oriented conversations with evaluators, evaluation users and funders of evaluations. We will ask ourselves and each other how we are advancing racial equity in our everyday evaluation approaches and practices. Using the W.K. Kellogg Foundation series “Doing Evaluation in Service of Racial Equity” as our practice guide, we will investigate our ideas, beliefs, organizations and systems. Join us every other month to build a supportive and honest learning community in our region.
